Eidos Montreal, a subsidiary studio owned by Square Enix, has officially been announced as a collaborator on the revival of Xbox’s Fable alongside Playground Games.

During the recent Xbox showcase event, a stunning new gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated Fable reboot was unveiled. Playground Games, known for the Forza Horizon series, is heading the development of the game with support from Eidos Montreal. Microsoft, in a statement on Xbox Wire, confirmed the partnership by stating, “Playground Games also confirmed its collaboration with Eidos Montreal, who will be assisting in the ongoing development of Fable, set to release in 2025.”

Back in November 2022, rumors regarding Eidos Montreal’s involvement in Fable were circulating, particularly after a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. Now, with the official confirmation, it is evident that the studio is actively contributing to the project. This collaboration aligns with the trend of Square Enix studios supporting other developers, as seen with Crystal Dynamics aiding The Initiative on Perfect Dark.

Among Eidos Montreal’s notable works are the critically acclaimed Thief (2014), Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018), and more recently, Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition to assisting with Fable, there are speculations that the studio is concurrently working on a new Deus Ex installment and a fresh intellectual property.

Stay updated for further details on the progress of the Fable reboot, scheduled for release on PC and Xbox platforms next year, as well as any new ventures from Eidos Montreal. Share your thoughts on this collaboration and the upcoming Fable reboot.
